Woman arrested for shooting man after allegedly meeting on Instagram to have sex

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A woman has been taken into police custody after she allegedly shot a man she met on Instagram to have sex with.

A spokesman with the Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed that Latoria Matthews, 23, was arrested for shooting a 24-year-old man on April 7, 2024, around 7:45 p.m.

The shooting happened at the LaSalle parking garage located at 526 Lafayette Street in downtown Baton Rouge.

Police said Matthews picked the victim up after meeting on Instragam and drove to the parking garage to have sex.

As the victim prepared to have sex with Matthews, she allegedly shot him multiple times. The victim was able to escape from the vehicle, and get help.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot injuries that were not life-threatening.

According to BRPD, Matthews left the scene and was extradited back to Baton Rouge from Houston, Texas.

She was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
