LSP lieutenant arrested following off-duty domestic violence incident

Law enforcement confirmed that 40-year-old James Jefferson III, of Baton Rouge, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. outside of a home in Baton Rouge.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A $10,000 bond has been set for a Louisiana State Police lieutenant who was arrested by the Baton Rouge Police Department late Wednesday night (Feb. 5) following an off-duty domestic violence incident.

Law enforcement confirmed that 40-year-old James Jefferson III was arrested around 11:30 p.m. outside of a home in Baton Rouge.

Jefferson has been employed with the Louisiana State Police since 2007 and is currently assigned to Headquarters.

As a result of the incident, Jefferson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for domestic abuse battery with child endangerment.

Officials say Jefferson has been placed on administrative leave, and all law enforcement property will be recovered once criminal and administrative investigations are complete.

Commissioner Jermaine Guillory set the bond on Thursday, Feb. 6. The next hearing is set for May, 8.
