Blow dryer left on mattress sparks apartment fire; 2 displaced

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Two people have been displaced after a blow dryer that was left on a mattress sparked an apartment fire on Tuesday morning.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department says it happened at the Willow Creek Apartments on Quida Mae Drive around 4:10 a.m.
Firefighters responded and found two people outside safe and smoke coming from the apartment.

After speaking with residents, officials determined a blow dryer on a mattress started the fire. Those living in the apartment put the fire out with a fire extinguisher, then moved the mattress outside behind the apartment.
While waiting for the apartment or air out, they later noticed flames coming from the back of the unit and called 911.
Inside, crews found fire damage toward the back of the unit with the sprinklers activated. Crews shut off the sprinklers and cleared the smoke.
The Red Cross was called to help the displaced occupants.
BRPD, EMS, Entergy, and the District Six Fire Department also responded to the scene.
