BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Southern University Police Department is investigating after a shooting inside one of its residential halls on Sunday, March 2.

According to officials, the shooting happened around 7 p.m. in U.S. Jones Hall. University officials temporarily placed the campus on lockdown for safety.

Southern University Communications Director Janene Tate confirmed late Sunday evening that the person who was shot is a male and is a student at the school. Tate said the student was transferred to the hospital and was stable. She did not disclose the student’s name.

Officials confirmed Monday afternoon that the student is in good condition, and expected to make a full recovery.

Tate said she could not disclose if the shooter was a student or not.

The person was captured on camera in U.S. Jones Hall in the aftermath of the shooting.

One Southern University student reported hearing a single gunshot go off on the second floor of Jones Hall—a hall that police then blocked entry to.

“Then after that, it was complete silence and that’s when you heard multiple fire and first responders, sirens, and things of that nature,” he said. “And then that’s when we got the announcement saying Jones Hall is on lockdown. No one leaves their room.”
