Lightning suspected to be cause of oil tank fire in Pointe Coupee Parish

LIVONIA, La. (WAFB) - Lighting is suspected to be the cause of an oil tank fire in Pointe Coupee Parish that began during severe weather on Monday morning.

As of noon, the fire has been extinguished.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene in Livonia. The first call came in around 6 a.m.

According to Chief Landon Landry of the Livonia Police Department, the incident started on Reliable Lane near Livonia on U.S. 190.

The fire spread across two of the oil tanks, and officials were initially worried about the flames reaching a third tanker.

The chief confirmed U.S. 190 remained open as firefighters worked to contain the flames.

Drivers were asked to use caution while traveling along U.S. 190 as first responders worked the scene.

It is unclear if anyone was injured.

Officials will continue to monitor the oil tankers closely. Recovery efforts from the owning company will follow.
