BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Looking for something fun to do this weekend? The La. Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is hosting its annual free fishing weekend in Louisiana on Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8.

For two days only, residents and visitors can fish in Louisiana waters without a fishing license.

“Each year, we designate a weekend of fishing with no need to purchase a fishing license as an incentive for families and friends to enjoy one of our state’s most beloved pastimes,” explained LDWF Secretary Tyler Bosworth. “Please take this opportunity to make memories with your loved ones and introduce them to the great sport of fishing.”

While fishing licenses are not required this weekend, all fishing regulations still apply, according to the LDWF. This includes size, season, limits, and gear restrictions.

Officials said that they still require a Wildlife Management Area (WMA) access permit for anyone 18 or older to enter WMAs, refuges, or conservation areas, as well as a self-clearing permit for all activities on these lands. They said a free Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) is also still needed during Free Fishing weekend when possessing tunas, billfish, swordfish, amberjacks, groupers, snappers, hinds, cobia, wahoo, dolphinfish, and gray triggerfish.
