65-year-old man dies in Denham Springs house fire

DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB) - Officials are stressing the importance of working smoke alarms after three people died over four days in residential fires across the state. One of them was in Livingston Parish.
According to the La. State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Denham Springs Fire Department responded to the house fire on MLK Jr. Boulevard around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 20.
Officials said a 65-year-old man died, but they did not release his name.
Investigators said the cause is undetermined, but they confirmed there were no smoke alarms in the home.
According to the fire marshal’s office, two other deadly fires happened from July 18-21, and the homes involved also did not have smoke alarms. They were in Iberia and Winn parishes.
Officials said the victims of those fires were a 71-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman.
“These tragedies are stark reminders of how critical it is to have working smoke alarms in your home,” said Principal Assistant Chief Bryan J. Adams. “A few minutes can make the difference between life and death. If you don’t have smoke alarms, we can help.”
The Operation Save-A-Life program provides free smoke alarms and installation for anyone needing help. To learn more, visit lasfm.org or contact the closest fire department.
