APD investigating fatal crash involving motorized wheelchair
Two vehicles were involved in the crash on Hudson Boulevard
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A person in a motorized wheelchair was killed in a crash involving two vehicles, according to the Alexandria Police Department.
APD said the crash happened on Monday, August 25, around 8:45 p.m. in the 3100 block of Hudson Boulevard.
Benny Bowie, 76, was hit by one of the vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.

Kevin Batiste, Sr., 52, of Alexandria, was identified as the driver of a van that hit the wheelchair. Louisiana State Police issued Batiste a summons for DWI (second offense). He was arrested for vehicular homicide, reckless operation and driving under suspension. Bond was set at $251,000.

A second vehicle was also involved in the crash but fled the scene before APD arrived. This vehicle is described as a dark-colored Dodge Charger with heavy front-end damage.

This crash investigation is ongoing.
