2 arrested following Monday night fatal shooting at Welwyn Way and Wellington Blvd

The Alexandria Police Department arrested a man and a woman in connection with a fatal shooting at Welwyn Way and Wellington Boulevard. The two are charged with murder and attempted murder for the Monday night shooting.
APD said they responded to a report of shots fired around 7 p.m. on Monday, and found a vehicle stopped at the intersection with two men inside. One of the men had been shot and was later pronounced dead at the scene. The other man was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to APD, suspects in one car shot at another car. They believe the shooting sparked from a dispute between the suspects and the victims. APD said the incident began in another location and one car followed another to the area where it escalated to a shooting.
APD said the suspects fled the scene in a gray Dodge Challenger.
Investigators identified Deon Francis Guidry, 24, as a suspect. He was found near the Walmart on Coliseum Boulevard around midnight and taken into custody, along with his companion, Sharessia Lashae Mix, 24, of Alexandria.
"Later that night around midnight, an officer that was working extra duty detail at Walmart, saw what he believed to be the suspect's vehicle, and made visible confirmation that it was Mr. Guidry." said Wade Bourgeois with APD. "He called for backup and other officers arrived and they were able to successfully take him into custody without incident."
The vehicle was processed by Crime Scene Investigators and the suspects were brought to APD Headquarters to be interviewed. Both Guidry and Mix were ultimately charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of attempted second degree murder. They were booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center.
One witness told News Channel 5 that he arrived at the scene just a few minutes after the shooting happened, and saw not only law enforcement officers, but also residents in the neighborhood working to revive the man who was fatally shot.
“I am grateful for the quick response and resolution to this situation by our police officers,” said Alexandria Mayor Jeffrey W. Hall. “Officers were on the scene quickly to ensure the safety of residents and were able to identify and apprehend the suspects within hours.”
“The work done last night by the men and women of the Alexandria Police Department was absolutely superb,” said Chief Jerrod King. “The professionalism, dedication and hard work of our officers is a tremendous source of pride for me and I hope it is a source of pride for the residents of our city. To have a homicide suspect in custody within five hours of the incident shows what a great job they do every day.
“I want to thank the men and women of Patrol Shift-Alpha as well as our Detective Division for identifying and getting a warrant on our suspect so quickly. I want to particularly recognize Officer Doyle, whose vigilance while working an extra detail and bravery led to a quick and safe arrest. I also want to thank the US Marshal’s Office for the assistance of their Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force for their hard work. Finally, I want to thank the community and the residents in the area of the shooting for their quick response sharing information with each other and with our officers.”
The investigation is still ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available. The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time. We did learn that the age of the victim was 21.
