PINEVILLE, La. (KALB) - Darrell Basco will serve the City of Pineville as its chief operating officer after recently retiring as the city’s police chief.

Pineville Mayor Joe Bishop made this announcement at the North Rapides Business and Industry Alliance meeting on Monday, Dec. 9.

In February 2023, Basco was appointed as Pineville’s Chief of Police after serving as deputy chief to former chief Don Weatherford, who retired in October 2022. Basco retired as police chief last month, after serving with PPD for nearly 30 years.

Mayor Bishop said Basco has already begun working as COO.

“Darrell has been with the City of Pineville for several years through the police department and everything,” he said. “So, he’s done made all the connections with the citizens of Pineville and also the business industry in Pineville. With Darrell fulfilling the Chief Operations Officer for the City of Pineville, it’s going to be fantastic to continue moving Pineville forward in a positive manner.”

There are questions yet to be answered on Basco’s new role, such as when he was officially in the role, and what his daily duties will be. KALB reached out to the city to help answer those questions and will keep you updated as we learn more on the developments.
