APD provides update on second vehicle in fatal wheelchair crash on Hudson Blvd.

The Alexandria Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the second vehicle involved in the fatal wheelchair crash on Hudson Blvd.

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The Alexandria Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the second vehicle involved in the fatal wheelchair crash in the 3100 block of Hudson Blvd.

This vehicle is described as a dark gray Chevrolet Camaro, year model between 2016 and 2018. APD said the vehicle should have heavy damage to the front passenger side.

According to APD, Benny Bowie, 76, was in a motorized wheelchair when he was killed in a crash involving two vehicles on August 25, around 8:45 p.m. on Hudson Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kevin Batiste, Sr., 52, of Alexandria, was identified as the driver of a van that hit the wheelchair. Louisiana State Police issued Batiste a summons for DWI (second offense). He was arrested for vehicular homicide, reckless operation and driving under suspension. Bond was set at $251,000.

A second vehicle was also involved in the crash but fled the scene before APD arrived. This is the vehicle APD is currently looking for.
