LEESVILLE, La. (KALB) - Hundreds turned out for the Louisiana Moonshine Festival over the weekend at the Vernon Parish Fairgrounds.

The two-day event returned for its second year. Organizers said Vernon Parish is the epicenter of no man’s land, where outlaws ended up, making it the perfect spot for Louisiana’s first and only moonshine festival.

Event coordinator Dave Gore said the event is built for the whole family. Attendees can bring kids without finding a babysitter, with activities available for children.

Live music, local vendors, and food filled the grounds.

Vendors travel from Georgia

Jim and April Parker made the trip from Georgia, bringing their family tradition with them. Jim Parker said his family has been making moonshine for more than 200 years, and he doesn’t plan on stopping.

The couple brought nine different flavors and nearly sold out. They came with 12 gallons and left with one gallon.

Festival organizers said plans for next year depend on feedback. Numbers are looking promising for next year, and organizers want people to get online and share if they liked it and want the festival to return.

For vendors like the Parkers, coming back is an easy decision.
